Texas power outages likely in summer if swelter returns

Utility experts told Texas legislators Feb. 9 that residents will likely have to reduce their power consumption this summer because of inadequate electric power reserves if the weather reaches record highs again, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Several new obstacles, including a surging population, regulations impacting the power industry, and low natural gas prices have combined to pressure the state’s electricity market.
